Villa Bighi Wedding Venue, Malta

Villa Bighi wedding, Malta | Period style & elegance

Period style & elegance for your Malta wedding venue

The 19th century neo-classical Villa Bighi is located in Kalkara, one of the Three Cities in the Grand Harbour area. It is the “Grand Dame” of Malta wedding venues.

The Knights of St John, Napoleon Bonaparte, and the Royal Navy, who used it as a hospital during British Colonial rule, have all left their mark, as have shrapnel wounds from bombardments during World War II deep in the imposing neo-classical facade.

Villa Bighi commands stunning views of the majestic Grand Harbour and Fort St Elmo, which is (literally!) stunning enough by itself to warrant a spot as a top Malta wedding venue. The stylish and elegant 19th century character sets it leagues apart from other venues of a similar size.

Villa Bighi oozes period elegance and style and history, and for these reasons is perfect for a grand wedding experience with an authentic “stately home” atmosphere. The distinguished history of Malta is encapsulated in the building, which is a focal point for wedding ceremonies. The open-air landscaped gardens and extensive terraces enhance the Villa’s architectural appeal, whilst the impressive building itself offers incomparable backdrops to wedding photo shoots that you will want to show off.

How many guests can I host at Villa Bighi?

Larger weddings can be accommodated here, with a minimum of 50 guests. The private promenade comfortably holds up to 1000 guests standing, and 600 seated. It is wheelchair accessible and also includes a cool and fragrant garden lounge terrace as a secondary area for your guests to enjoy. A variety of stately rooms are available at Villa Bighi (including the Grand Hall formerly used as chapel with an ornate stone pulpit as a focal point ideal for speeches), a ground floor salon with impressive art and tapestries, and an impressive area which can be used for dancing. The sumptuous rooms all boast breathtaking view of the Grand Harbour, and the blue Mediterranean beyond.

What does a wedding cost at Villa Bighi?

The team at Villa Bighi host approximately 25 weddings per year, starting at 4,000 EUR for the venue, which is offered exclusively for you and your guests. Prices vary according to the year and day of the week, and can be tailored to your requirements.

Villa Bighi is available for hire as standalone venue. There is no “in-house” or preferred catering partnership, and couples are free to make their own arrangements for hospitality from a caterer entirely of their choice. This flexibility is supported by world-class kitchen facilities available for the exclusive use of your preferred suppliers.
